Trends. They come and they go, but overtime we have come to realize that trends are cyclical. With the rising love of nostalgia, even for times we may have not experienced ourselves, certain looks always come back with new generations. This has become extremely prominent through the rise of social media with Millennials debating with Generation Z online over what jean styles and hair styles are superior, but this has also become true for the accessory of sunglasses. So what styles of sunglasses have cycled around to now be “on trend”? Let’s take a look.
OLD HOLLYWOOD CAT-EYE SUNGLASSES
The first style of sunnies that have made a comeback are cat eye frames. Cat Eyes were first popularized by Audrey Hepburn in the 1950s to complement her heart-shaped face. This oversized style of frames creates a fashionable melodramatic look while still looking luxurious. Many young celebrities and influencers are bringing this style of frames back into the spotlight, and we are here for it! Here at IVI, we bring these classic retro frames back to life with Daggerwing and Faye. These frames will make you feel the Old Hollywood glamour and add a unique flare to any outfit.
ROUND JOHN LENNON FRAMES
The second style that is making its way back into fashion are round frames. Whether sunglasses or eyeglasses, these primarily gained popularity in the 1960s and ‘70s when John Lennon coined them as his go-to accessory. These frames bring a special sort of nostalgia to current generations, as they represent a time many wished they could have experienced – the hippie generation. These frames can go with a variety of looks, and it is no wonder why they are coming back into style. If you are looking for round frames, check out Brooks. These frames elevate any look with their vintage inspiration and suit all face shapes.
TOP GUN AVIATORS
Another style of sunglasses that are making a comeback are aviators. Thanks to the release of Top Gun: Maverick, these versatile frames are becoming cool again. These frames were invented in the 1930s to help protect pilots’ eyes while flying. They became popularized by the general public in the 1980s after the release of Top Gun, and are now gaining popularity again from the same movie franchise. Thanks Tom Cruise! If you are looking to rock some aviators, IVI’s got you covered. Check out our frames Merc and Blake. These frames are the perfect blend of modern and vintage, and look great on anyone for any occasion.
Over the past few years we have come to realize that trends come and go in cycles. Something that may not be considered fashionable anymore will probably make its comeback within our lifetime. Regardless, when it comes down to it, wear whatever your heart desires. The beauty of having such a vast amount of options in fashion is the freedom of being able to choose to wear what best expresses yourself! Wear whatever fits your own unique style whether it is “on trend” or not.
